Hospitality Venues Urged To Create ‘Track And Trace’ QR Posters
Businesses and venues in the UK have been urged to make sure they are meeting legal requirements and keeping COVID-compliant by creating a QR poster with the launch of the NHS COVID-19 Track and Trace app on Thursday 24 September.
The app will enable users to ‘check-in’ when they visit venues and business premises by scanning a QR code on posters displayed at the entrance, and the app will then inform visitors if they have come into contact with someone who later tests positive for the coronavirus. Businesses face fines of £1,000 for failing to display the posters.
The latest guidance issued by the government has made it a legal requirement for all venues from the following sectors to display NHS QR posters in their venues by the 24 September:
- hospitality
- leisure and tourism
- close contact services
- places of worship
- local authority venues.
A QR code is a square-shaped image, like a cross between a crossword puzzle and a barcode, that is machine-readable and can be scanned on mobile phones and tablets. QR stands for ‘quick response’.
Many restaurants and bars have already been using QR code enabled posters to enable customers to check-in, as well as providing online menus and contact-free means of ordering food and drinks.
Businesses that are already using QR codes have been asked to switch to the new NHS QR system so that the Track and Trace app can then log venue information on the user’s phone, which stays there for 21 days.
